:: Edito :: A new range of safety interlocks from HF Sécurité As announced by our Managing Director in the last newsletter, at the beginning of April 2008 HF Sécurité will undergo a significant change of direction towards new products with the birth of a new range that will of course keep the RONIS PROTEC and PROFALUX SERRURES names. Our current products are based on a decades-old design and so have to be adapted to the needs of the market. What’s more, each product range entails managing a huge number of references and assembly processes, while several products have identical functions and the same product can have different dimensions in each range. |

HF Sécurité has fitted out the largest and most up-to-date container ship built by A.P. Møller-Mærsk, in partnership with ABB Denmark. This giant of the seas known as “Emma Mærsk” is in service on the Europe-Asia line. It is a member of the fleet of world-famous MÆRSK boats and is registered to Taarbæk in Denmark. |

When designing the new range, we strove to retain as much compatibility as possible with the old range in terms of dimensions and functionality, so that it can be easily adapted to existing equipment, as well as equipment that is in development. We also used materials that satisfy current economic and environmental constraints, in line with the important values held dear by HF Sécurité and the Halma Group to which we belong. The new range will offer you products that combine design with reliability. They can be placed on your machinery for internal and external applications and feature the same dimensions as Ronis Protec and Profalux Serrures products, which makes them much easier to install. Of course, changing from one range to another will involve a few changes by the manufacturers with whom we have been working in partnership and who have supported us in this move which also aims to simplify their own components. The new range is due to be launched on 1st April 2008, with a transitional period - that we will try to make as short as possible - during which the two ranges will coexist. From March, catalogues and technical data will be available and our whole team will be on call to help you through this period of evolution. Guy ROULET |

Emma Mærsk sets new standards for container-ship dimensions. It is 397 m long and 53 m wide, meaning that it is longer than the Eiffel Tower and wider than a football pitch. Officially, it can carry 11,000 containers. If you had to carry the same amount on land, you would need a train that was 71 km long. The boat was named EMMA MÆRSK in honour of Mr Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller’s late wife. The main engine’s 14 Wärtsilä cylinders produce 110,000 HP and the hull is covered with silicone paint which reduces water resistance, leading to an annual fuel saving of 1,200 tonnes. The EMMA MÆRSK is a completely automated ship featuring high-tech computer systems. This allows it to be run by just a 13-man crew. It can sleep up to 30 people. The EMMA MÆRSK has been designed to satisfy the highest safety, accuracy and environmental standards and to provide the cheapest means of goods transportation in the entire world. |

For several years now our Ronis Protec and Profalux Serrures safety interlocking systems have been used by many engineering companies to guarantee the safety of operatives when carrying out maintenance work on wind turbines. A number of these turbines had until then been fitted with safety interlocking systems on just the switch disconnector or the earthing switch disconnector. These were standard systems that HF Sécurité supplies to manufacturers of electrical equipment who want to systematically safeguard their machines. |

AIDA cruise ships. When announcing the construction of four new liners, the German company AIDA Cruise, a subsidiary of Costa Croisières, pointed to their unusual design. The AIDAdiva does indeed have a remarkable construction. The ship weighs 68,500 tonnes, has 1,025 cabins – including 457 with balcony – as well as 11 bars and seven restaurants. Its maximum capacity will be 2,500 passengers. |

The big increase in wind farms in France, Europe and globally has underlined the need for safety interlocking systems that are a lot more comprehensive, in order to keep the chances of an accident to an absolute minimum. Several manufacturers have turned to HF Sécurité to investigate how these new safety interlocking systems can be installed in an environment for which they were not originally intended. Thanks to this great experience, we have been able to develop whole kits for each model of turbine. Installers now have at their disposal not simply products, but a collection of safety interlocks including locks, specific supports and fasteners. Today we work with most wind turbine manufacturers, as much for the provision of these new safety interlocking systems as for agreement between the different companies involved in installing the huge number of wind farms sprouting up around the world. In this way we are also contributing to the development of renewable energy programmes which are being put in place in many countries! |
